During the January 11th episode of Monday Night Raw WWE revealed that Kofi Kingston was suffering from a broken jaw, and now the man himself has confirmed the diagnosis.
There had been speculation that the injury was a work, but Kingston’s comments pour cold water on that particular theory.
Kingston appeared via Instagram TV to interview Major League Ruby player Tendai Mtawarira, and apologised for not sounding as he normally does, confirming the injury in the process.
“I gotta apologize because I feel like I’m talking out of the side of my mouth and I’m dealing with, like, a jaw injury right now, and my mouth is only closing on one side,” Kofi told fans. “So, if I sound kind of funny, that’s why. Ordinarily I do a lot of imitations, impersonations, and impressions but I’m not doing that right now. I’m just… I’m talking funny trying to figure this situation out.”
It is unclear when Kingston sustained the injury, but he was last in action alongside Xavier Woods against the team of The Miz and John Morrison on January 4th. However, it is unlikely that the injury is something that Kingston would have been able to work through.
In recent weeks Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods have been embroiled in a feud with the Hurt Business, with the pair losing the Raw Tag Team Titles to Shelton Benjamin at WWE TLC in December 2020.
