On Wednesday night’s edition of NXT, it was announced that former NXT and WWE Universal Champion, Kevin Owens, would return to the black and gold brand in seven days time as a special guest commentator.
The host of ‘The Kevin Owens Show’ will replace Wade Barrett for one week only, joining regulars Vic Joseph and Beth Phoenix
Kevin Owens has a long and storied history with the brand, making his in-ring debut at NXT Takeover: R-Evolution and capturing the NXT Championship from former best friend Sami Zayn two months later at NXT TakeOver: Rival on February 11, 2015, following a vicious heel turn.
Even though his call-up to WWE’s main roster was quicker than most envisaged, Owens was proud to represent the brand on Raw when he shocked the world and pinned WWE United States Champion John Cena at the 2015 Elimination Chamber.
Though his main roster run stalled several times throughout the years, Owens never forgot where he came from and made a shock appearance one year ago at NXT TakeOver: WarGames as the surprise member of Team Tommaso Ciampa, gaining one of the loudest pops in NXT history.
It is currently unknown whether Owens will engage in any physical competition during his appearance next week, but he will be part of Team SmackDown at Survivor Series on November 22.
