Kevin Owens recently appeared in ‘Stone Cold’ cosplay, but now ‘The Prizefighter’ has named the WWE Superstar he doesn’t want to be like.
Kevin Owens has had a tremendous career with WWE thus far, recently wrestling ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin in the first match for the ‘The Texas Rattlesnake’ in 19-years. A former Universal, United States, and Intercontinental Champion, Owens is considered to be one of the company’s top Superstars today.
The former Kevin Steen was recently a guest on After The Bell with Corey Graves, where they got onto the subject of Dolph Ziggler. ‘The Showoff’ is a tenured WWE Superstar, having recently held the NXT Championship, though his booking has been a hot topic of wrestling discourse for the past few years.
Once Graves began speaking about the former World Heavyweight Champion, Kevin Owens admitted that he never wants to be like Dolph Ziggler, despite respecting him, as he’s clearly frustrated with his career trajectory:
“It’s kind of funny that you bring up Dolph Ziggler, he’s a guy I respect a ton. I don’t think I have ever told him this but he’s one of the guys I would look at and think that I don’t want to be like Dolph, in the sense that he is so good, but I would see him so frustrated, because he is so good. He feels like he should be doing more and he is right. And I don’t want to be like that.
This was when I was in 2015, I don’t want to be like that, coming to work and being frustrated. But guess what, when you are passionate, hungry, and you know you are good, it’s inevitable, it’s going to happen to everybody. If you don’t go through that, I’m not going to say you are in the wrong business, because I don’t believe that, but you need to have a better perspective.
The hunger to do more and to contribute as much to the show as you can, that’s normal. But it’s important to try and find that perspective to enjoy it. I’m like man, Dolph never seems to enjoy himself, and that’s shifted. I see him now completely different. When he went to do that NXT stuff, I texted him to say that the promo was unbelievable, it was a Dolph I haven’t seen in years.”
Kevin Owens would continue, explaining how seeing this new side of Dolph Ziggler has changed his own attitude to a position where he now feels confident:
“It was really refreshing, but even before that, his attitude and energy has shifted. He is enjoying himself at work a ton more and I guess I don’t know what made it so[I am enjoying myself], maybe signing the new contract helped a lot because now I know that when WWE made it clear they wanted me to stay, I’m like well okay.
It’s obvious that they want me to stay, so now maybe it took some of the pressure off. I feel confident in my position here. For a long time I loved my job, but I was frustrated because things were not going the way I wanted.”
Kevin Owens and Dolph Ziggler have wrestled a number of times together, and even formed an alliance for a brief period in 2019. They last wrestled each other on the 30 October 2020 episode of SmackDown, where Owens was successful. Kevin Owens has also previously defended the Intercontinental Championship against Dolph on pay-per-view.
