Back on November 14th it was reported that Kevin Owens had sustained a potentially serious knee injury during a match against Austin Theory at a live event. This placed his involvement in the main event of Survivor Series in jeopardy, however the injury proved less severe than first feared and he wrestled as planned.
Despite this it appears that Owens isn’t out of the woods just yet, and he’s still working through the injury, thought to be a sprained MCL.
Kevin Owens Still Injured
Speaking on a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that Owens is still struggling with the injury, but he’s able to keep wrestling.
“Owens’ knee held up but I wasn’t sure by the end of the match. Owens’ knee held up but he’s still hurt too. He got through the match and he worked the house show [on Sunday] and he worked the Raw [last night]. He’s okay to work which is really good because two weeks ago, there was a lot of concern that he could be out for a while. Luckily, he dodged that bullet”.
At Survivor Series, Kevin Owens teamed with Drew McIntyre, Sheamus, Butch and Ridge Holland to take on The Bloodline. As the match reached it’s conclusion, Owens appeared to have Roman Reigns beaten following a Stunner, however Sami Zayn had other ideas. Zayn stopped the referee from counting the pin, before being confronted by Owens. As KO tried to reason with Zayn and get him to leave The Bloodline, his former friend hit him with a low-blow, followed by a Helluva Kick. With Owens laid out, Zayn handed him over to Jey Uso to deliver a Frog Splash to secure victory.
In the days after the match it was also reported that Roman Reigns lashed out in an “expletive-filled” rant when he got backstage after a spot with Owens didn’t go to plan. A further update noted that Reigns was caught with a stiff shot which left him with bruising under his eye, however any issues between himself and Owens were resolved within minutes.
