Kevin Owens Pays Tribute To Jay Briscoe Following WrestleMania 39 Tag Team Championship Victory

Kevin Owens

The first night of WrestleMania 39 was headlined by a match months in the making as Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens took on The Usos with the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship on the line.

The crowd inside SoFi stadium was fiercely in the corner of Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens throughout the bout, and the emotional story between the two sides rose to a climax near the end of the match when Kevin Owens tagged in Sami as Jey Uso was the legal man.

Jimmy tried to interfere and save his brother, but Owens delivered a Stunner to stop him. this allowed Zayn to hit an emotional Helluva Kick on Jey to get the win.

At the post-show press conference, Kevin Owens celebrated his and Zayn’s victory and paid tribute to the people who have helped the pair over the past two decades.

This included thanking Pro Wrestling Guerrilla founder Super Dragon as well as The Usos and another team they had a long history with, The Briscoe Brothers.

When speaking of the late, great Jay Briscoe, Owens said he hopes he and Zayn’s performance made him proud.

“Before I go, two things. The Usos, even though everybody loves them, everybody appreciates them, they’re under-appreciated. They’re the best. Unbelievable. I don’t have enough good words for them.

“And also, I said PWG helped us get here, Super Dragon helped us get here. There’s two other guys that really helped us get here. Their names are Mark and Jay Briscoe. We lost Jay recently. I really hope we made him proud tonight.”

Owens and Zayn were not the only stars to win gold at WrestleMania 39, as Rhea Ripley dethroned Charlotte Flair to make history on the Grandest Stage Of Them All.
