Kevin Owens shares a heartbreaking update about his health and in-ring future in the WWE.
Owens had announced his hiatus a few months ago, just 2 weeks before WrestleMania, leading to him missing the marquee event.
In a recent interview with le10sport, KO shared the latest on his situation. Owens stated that he still has not undergone neck surgery and that his doctor is taking a very cautious approach. Kevin admitted that while it is a slow process, he has no option but to wait it out.
“I still haven’t had the surgery. There are a lot of things to consider before the surgery,” Owens stated. “We’re waiting to see how things progress naturally. There’s no doubt I need surgery, but before we do the surgery, we just have to see how much it can be slightly improved without surgery… It’s a very slow process. You just have to have patience.”
Owens addressed the doubts and revealed that it took several months to figure out the truth. The former Universal Champion learned about the severity of his neck injury two days before his announcement, and that it would be a major risk if he continued wrestling. He said:
“We found out two days before I made the announcement on SmackDown that I wouldn’t be able to be at WrestleMania and that I had to stop wrestling immediately.”
Kevin Owens’ last in-ring match was a brutal encounter with longtime friend and rival Sami Zayn at Elimination Chamber.
Kevin Owens Shares Grim Truth About WWE Return
Additionally, Owens felt “extremely lucky not to be injured more seriously,” considering that his neck was in bad shape going into some very physical matches at the Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber.
When asked about a timeline for his in-ring return, Kevin Owens shared the unfortunate news that he is uncertain if he will ever be able to wrestle again, given the current situation. He said:
“It would be, not arrogant, but wrong to be able to tell you right now that I will absolutely return to the ring, that I will have more fights. I don’t know if that’s true.”
It’s really disheartening to hear about this update and a grim reminder of the physical toll wrestlers take for our entertainment.
We at ITR Wrestling wish Kevin Owens a speedy recovery.
