Kevin Owens has reportedly undergone surgery and could be facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Writing in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that Owens is believed to have had surgery on 7 April. Meltzer noted that the nature of Owens’ injury typically results in a recovery period of between 12 to 15 months.
“Regarding Owens, his surgery was believed to have taken place on 4/7. In most cases, this type of surgery leads to the person being out 12 to 15 months although there are other forms of neck surgery that can be done. Tommaso Ciampa several years back had a shorter recovery time,” Meltzer wrote.
Owens himself has offered a slightly more optimistic outlook, suggesting his return could be a bit sooner.
“Owens put the timetable as six to eight months, or maybe a year,” Meltzer added.
Owens had previously spoken about the injury but did not specify exactly when it occurred. He said he believed the injury took place during one of his matches in January but did not elaborate on which bout it was.
With Owens potentially missing the rest of 2025 and possibly part of 2026, WWE will have to make significant adjustments to any plans involving the former Universal Champion.
As he is no longer able to compete at the event, Kevin Owens has unveiled the special shirt designed for his match against Randy Orton at WrestleMania 41.
Which Former WWE Star Criticised The Company Whilst Discussing Kevin Owens’ Recent Injury?
Former WWE star Karl Anderson criticised the company for releasing him while he was recovering from surgery in November 2024. Anderson was discussing Owens’ recent neck injury and delivered a jab towards the promotion, stating, “I hope he’s not released two and a half months after the major surgery,” referring to his release while recovering from surgery for a torn rotator cuff.
