Kevin Nash is one of the most important figures in WWE and WCW history. He was a central figure in both the Madison Square Garden incident and the New World Order faction, both of which had major impact on the direction of professional wrestling in North America.
Kevin Nash’s backstage influence also meant that he butted heads with many different people, including Vince McMahon.
And while sometimes their arguments were over important matters, other times they argued over small differences in taste.
But as Nash revealed on an episode of his Kliq This podcast, Vince’s tastes had a profound impact on the wrestling he showcased and thus the wrestling his audiences consumed.
Vince McMahon hated an entire style of wrestling match
During this podcast, Kevin Nash echoed a sentiment that was previously made by Charlie Haas and Tom Pritchard: that Vince McMahonhated tags team matches.
“Vince always hated tag matches. He used to call them, ‘garnish’ and sh*t. I’m like, ‘Man, you can do so much f***ing good sh*t in a tag match.”
Vince McMahon’s reason for hating tag teams has never been fully explained, though several people have theorized why. Charlie Haas, for example, thinks that Vince sees tag team “as an added expense”.
In other words, he’s paying for an extra body for a single gimmick/character when more attention could be given to a singles star and money and time can be saved by removing one person.
But despite Vince McMahon’s alleged hatred of tag team wrestling, several of the biggest draws in both WWE and beyond have been tag teams instead of individuals. WWE has even inducted tag teams into their own Hall of Fame.
Among these inductees are: The Wild Samoans, The Brisco Brothers, The Road Warriors, The Bushwackers, The Fabulous Freebirds, The Rock ‘N’ Roll Express, The Dudley Boyz, and the Steiner Brothers.
