After CM Punk broke the internet with his return to wrestling after a seven-year absence, one former WWE Superstar has wasted no time in calling him out.
AEW Rampage: The First Dance held in the United Center in Chicago got off to a bang like no other wrestling show in years as CM Punk made his AEW debut in front of a rabid hometown crowd. Punk took his time soaking in the adulation, even stage diving into his adoring public before getting in the ring to address the 15,000-plus fans in attendance and those watching at home.
CM Punk addressed his long-time absence from wrestling, referencing having his passion “stamped out” for a spell. The former WWE Champion then called out Darby Allin who was watching proceedings from the rafters with Sting. Punk challenged Allin to a match and the two men will meet one-on-one at All Out.
However, CM Punk will not have his troubles to seek or challengers looking to dish out Punk’s first loss in singles competition in wrestling since a certain Roman Reigns defeated him in January 2014.
Now former WWE star and current New Japan Pro Wrestling competitor KENTA has called out Punk on Twitter, with wrestling’s ‘forbidden door’ looking to be smashed open once again.
KENTA’s message was straightforward:
“It’s official. GIVE ME CM PUNK”
GIVE ME CM PUNK
— KENTA aka Lil’K (@KENTAG2S) August 21, 2021
KENTA of course is the innovator of the Go 2 Sleep which CM Punk has become synonymous with throughout his wrestling career as well.
The former NEVER Openweight Champion has previously competed in AEW back in February 2021 after stunning the wrestling world by attacking Jon Moxley on Dynamite. The next week Bullet Club past and present came together as KENTA teamed with Kenny Omega to defeat Moxley and Lance Archer in a Falls Count Anywhere match.
KENTA joined WWE after Punk had originally left the company and competed there under the Hideo Itami moniker before leaving in February 2019.
