The rivalry between Kenny Omega and Jon Moxley goes all the way back to 2019.
Moxley targeted Omega right out of the gate, attacking the star when he made his AEW debut at Double or Nothing that year.
While the rivalry had faded by mid-2021, the angry spark between the pair reignited in early 2023 as the Blackpool Combat Club set its sights on The Elite. On the April 26th episode of Dynamite, The Elite was beaten down once again, with associate Konosuke Takeshita attacked with a screwdriver.
After Omega and The Elite swore vengeance, a Cage Match was confirmed between Kenny Omega and Jon Moxley for May 10th.
Kenny Omega Fires Message To Tony Khan
The match with Moxley was made after a fired-up Kenny Omega demanded that Tony Khan do something about the war between The Elite and the Blackpool Combat Club after Dynamite went off the air. Omega called on Khan to “stop letting the inmates run the asylum.”
“You’re really entertained, aren’t you? This is what you wanted, isn’t it? Get your pound of flesh, run away with your tail between your legs. How about we make a deal?
Hey Tony, instead of letting the inmates run the asylum for a change, how about you lock these guys where they can’t run, where they can’t hide, and you take on me? You want to see how tough I can be? You think we’re just kids, huh? You think we can’t fight? You think we can just wrestle? I’ll show you. Hope you’re listening, Tony.
This is far from over. You hear me? This is far from over. Moxley, no more running, no more hiding. No more. Goodbye, goodnight,”
At time of writing, the match between Omega is the only match confirmed for the May 10th episode of AEW Dynamite.
