After becoming the IWGP Heavyweight Champion, Kenny Omega has revealed that he had no more goals as active wrestler in a recent interview.
Omega won the IWGP Championship in 2018 in one of the biggest title changes in wrestling history. After a two-year storyline, Omega lifted the title after defeating Kazuchika Okada at NJPW Dominion.
Now, Omega has opened up about how he was feeling after that match. In an interview with Yahoo Sports, he explains that now all that’s left for him, is to “change the world”.
My mission statement has always sort of been “Change the world.” A lot of people ask me what that means or if I’m just saying it because it sounds nice. To be honest, I’ve just always sort of felt that I had accomplished all of my goals in professional wrestling a long time ago.
There wasn’t much more for me to do as an active professional wrestler. After winning the IWGP heavyweight championship, what was left for me? I needed something bigger than me, bigger than what I had been doing.
Kenny Omega subsequently lost the IWGP title to Hiroshi Tanahashi at Wrestle Kingdom 13 in 2019. To date, that appearance was his final match with New Japan Pro Wrestling.
Since, he has signed with All Elite Wrestling where he is the reigning AEW World Champion.
