Kenny Omega, the current number one contender to the AEW World Championship, has revealed that he is working through a shoulder injury.
Omega appeared on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio. During the interview, Dave Meltzer mentioned that Omega had seemed to be dealing with a shoulder injury for a while. He drew attention to the cupping marks seen around the area. This prompted the star to reveal that he is suffering from a torn labrum:
“A torn labrum, as you know, is really no laughing matter. That’s a surgery, but I’ve got a very talented and unbelievable trainer. You know our doctors, of course, are always monitoring and making sure that we’re doing okay, but our trainer Bryce Ready is just next level kind of guy. He has kept me together and in a condition where I’m able to perform. As long as I make sure that I see him two or three times a week I can lift, I have full range of motion. I just need to make sure that I can look after it and I can avoid that surgery. Of course, I can’t afford having that time off.”
Though Omega seems confident that he will not need to take any time off for surgery, he did concede that “If things get worse, of course that’s an option I have to consider”. As it stands he continues to “go to the trainers and they patch me up.”
Despite Omega working through an injury, he is currently scheduled to face Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship on the December 2nd edition of Dynamite. Inside the Ropes will provide live coverage of the event.
