Kenny Omega is an integral part of AEW. Not only is he one of the best wrestlers in the promotion and its longest-reigning World Champion, but he is also one of the EVPs of the promotion and has been a part of its exponential growth since the beginning.
In 2019 All Elite Wrestling launched and announced it would bring professional wrestling back to TNT for the first time in 18 years. It instantly drew WCW Nitro comparisons that a lot of old-school fans were drawn to while the indie kudos and respect the majority of the roster held brought a youthful and diverse demographic to the company. With all these attributes they quickly established themselves as a genuine alternative to WWE.
The promotion now three runs weekly shows, Dynamite, Rampage and Collision as well as four main PPVs, Revolution, Double or Nothing, All Out and Full Gear. Plus it runs other major shows like Forbidden Door and the upcoming UK supershow All In London At Wembley Stadium.
Speaking on TSN, the Cleaner talked about just how much the company has grown and has gone from them learning on the fly to selling over 60’000 tickets for their first-ever UK show.
No, we were flying by the seat of our pants. And we had all of the dreams in the world. And we want to do the best that we could with what we had. And we had thought, sure, we’ll get that show, the flagship show.
And what followed, which would be, you know, two dark programmes, another program and met with Rampage, and even a third televised programme with collision.
And, you know, a laundry list of big show pay-per-view matches, one of which, in Wembley Stadium coming up, I never could have dreamed of it, but at what it could dream up, was that we would eventually be here in Canada.
And not only did we come to Canada, but now we’re coming back, because the fans were incredibly hospitable. And the reception is always incredible when we are there. So I’m happy to be back and happy to take part.
Speaking of heading to Canada, AEW is on the eve of the cross-promotion event Forbidden Door, which sees both AEW and NJPW talent go head-to-head in several never seen before dream matches.
