Kenny Omega Provides Health Update Following NJPW WrestleKingdom 17

Kenny Omega Will Ospreay

Kenny Omega has had a noteworthy 2023 just in the first month alone. He returned to Japanese soil for the first time since January 2019 to defeat Will Ospreay to win the IWGP United States Championship on January 4th.

Then on the January 11th episode of AEW Dynamite, The Elite emerged victorious after a hard-fought Best of Seven Series against Death Triangle. After a total of four matches, The Elite came out on top with a 4 -3 lead, becoming the second team in AEW history to capture the World Trios Championships.

Is Kenny Omega Injured?

In an interview with ComicBook.com, Kenny Omega provided an update on his recovery from the various injuries he sustained during his strenuous schedule of the AEW World Trios Title series and NJPW Wrestle Kingdom:

“I would say before the Best of Seven series and the Tokyo Dome I was feeling pretty good. And after completing the Best of Seven Series, which culminated in a Ladder Match, and barely being removed from the match that I did with Will Ospreay at Wrestle Kingdom, it was kind of a slap in the face from reality being like, ‘Hey, don’t go thinking you’re 100% again. We just let you think that for a couple of weeks (laughs). This is your new 100% so get used to it, kid.’”

“That was the crashing back down to reality moment for me. Like, okay, I did it. I survived. I’m really proud of this work, but oh boy, it’s going to take a while to recover. It wasn’t like a ‘give me a 24-hour’ kind of thing. It’s been over a week and I’m still feeling it.”

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Omega, who hasn’t appeared on AEW television since January 11 due to a visa issue, has been cleared and he will be at Dynamite on February 1st in Dayton, Ohio.
