The reason behind Kenny Omega’s absence from the January 25th edition of AEW Dynamite has been reportedly revealed.
The emotional main event of the show saw Mark Briscoe defeat Jay Lethal in a match that was a tribute to Mark’s brother Jay Briscoe, who tragically passed away on January 17th. After the match, multiple members of the locker room came out to the stage, applauding Mark Briscoe and Jay Lethal’s effort while also paying their respects to the late former ROH World Champion.
Why Kenny Omega Has Been Off Of AEW TV
In an update published in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Omega missed the Jay Briscoe tribute episode of Dynamite due to circumstances that were beyond his control. It is being reported that the former AEW World Champion is currently dealing with a visa issue, which is why he has not been seen on Dynamite or Rampage for a number of weeks.
Omega wanted to be at the arena in Lexington badly as he loved Jay Briscoe, but sadly was unable to attend. While Omega could not make the show, he has showed his support to the Briscoe family. Omega has donated $10,000 dollars to the memorial fund of Jay Briscoe.
The Jay Briscoe Tribute episode of Dynamite would be the first time that Mark Briscoe appeared on AEW programming, having been previously blocked by Warner Brothers Discovery. The decision was reversed thanks to the help of All Elite Wrestling President Tony Khan, who has stated that he fought hard to make the tribute show a reality on TBS.
Kenny Omega was last seen on Dynamite on the January 11th episode. Omega teamed with The Young Bucks to take on Death Triangle in what was the final match in the best of 7 series between the two teams. The Elite would defeat Death Triangle to win the series 4 to 3 and become the new Trios Champions.
