According to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Kenny Omega will travel to Mexico on December 12 to compete at AAA TripleMania XXVIII.
During the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer stated that following his challenge of Jon Moxley and the AEW World Heavyweight Championship on December 2 at AEW Dynamite: Winter is Coming, Omega would make the trip to defend his AAA Mega Championship.
As per the report, Omega is due to defend the gold against MLW talent, The Laredo Kid, in the empty arena show but plans could change between now and the event taking place thanks to precautions surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.
Because Omega has been unable to defend his championship in Mexico – he did make a defence on AEW Dynamite in March – Meltzer cites that it is likely he will drop the strap to Laredo Kid because it is unlikely he will be sanctioned by AEW to travel again until the pandemic is over.
Tony Khan stated in a recent interview that he would be implementing tighter restrictions on where his talent could perform after several names were forced to withdraw from AEW Dynamite after either testing positive for COVID or coming into contact with those who did.
Kenny Omega defeated Rey Fenix to capture the strap at AAA World Wide: Heroes Inmortales XIII on October 19, 2019, and has only been able to make three defences of the title since.
