Kenny Omega “Doesn’t Understand” Will Ospreay’s Beef With Canada

Kenny Omega laughs at Will Ospreay on AEW Dynamite 2022

Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay are set to renew hostilities at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door on June 25th.

The rivalry has a number of different dimensions, but perhaps the most left-field is Will Ospreay’s dislike of Canada, Canadians, and Bret Hart. This has only become more apparent since the British star arrived in Canada ahead of Forbidden Door with his partner and has been dragged to see the sights.

Speaking in a recent interview with TSN, proud Canadian star Omega admitted that he doesn’t understand Ospreay’s beef with the country. The former AEW World Champion also challenged his rival to show him something different from their match at Wrestle Kingdom 17 in Japan.

“I really don’t understand his beef with Canada, perhaps it’s more Canadian people. And I think every country has some despicable people living within it. Sure, maybe I’m one of them. Maybe I’m one of them. Perhaps the business has clouded my soul a little bit dark in my heart. I’m not sure. I’m just here being me.

But what’s most important about all that is I still believe deep down that I’m probably the best wrestler and best representative on a worldwide scale for professional wrestling. So love me or not hate me or not, I’m the benchmark, I know that I’m the benchmark, so Will has to step up his game.

And he has to show something much different than what he showed at Tokyo Dome. Because now we’re in Canada. And now this is probably going to be his last chance to win his belt back. And if he doesn’t, I really have no obligation to go back to Japan either as much as I’d like to. So they just may lose one of their most prized possessions for an undisclosed amount of time. So it’s a very big match for Will.”

Kenny Omega Claims Will Ospreay Didn’t Do Enough Leading NJPW

During the same interview, Omega discussed his departure from New Japan Pro-Wrestling ahead of starting AEW. The star said that he felt like he’d left the company in good hands with Ospreay and Jay White, but the pair had underdelivered.

While it is believed that the match between Kazuchika Okada and Bryan Danielson will top the card at Forbidden Door, it has been reported that Omega vs. Ospreay could also take the spot.
