Kenny Omega Defends Becoming AEW World Champion

Kenny Omega took to Twitter this week to comment on his recent win against Jon Moxley to become the new AEW World Heavyweight Champion.

Omega, who is also AEW’s Executive Vice President, defeated Moxley with help from Don Callis on the December 2nd episode of Dynamite to become the third AEW World Champion. Notably, this win makes Omega first professional wrestler in company history to win both the AEW World Championship and Tag Team Championship.

Responding to a fan criticising Omega for holding the Championship due to his high positioning within the company in a backstage role, Omega responded:

“You’ve got it all wrong. I’m just a lowly Executive Best Wrestler of all time. That’s kinda why I win everything everywhere. That’s how life works.”

The fan would respond, “My Point is if you’re someone in power you should not be world champion”, to which Omega replied:

“The only power I have is to make you cry.”

Capturing the AEW World Championship is the latest achievement in a long list of accolades for ‘The Cleaner’. Omega, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest wrestlers alive today, is a former IWGP Heavyweight Champion, PWG World Champion, AAA Mega Champion and AJPW World Junior Heavyweight Champion.

As well as being a former leader of legendary stable, The Bullet Club, and founding member of The Elite, Omega has also won countless Match of the Year polls, as well as being voted Sports Illustrated Wrestler of the Year and, most recently, was inducted into the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame 2020.

Following his victory against Moxley, it was announced that Kenny Omega will appear on the December 8th episode of ‘IMPACT Wrestling!’ alongside Executive Vice President, Don Callis. This unexpected crossover between the promotions has lead to internet speculation of an alliance between the two companies.

Inside The Ropes will have live coverage of IMPACT Wrestling.
