March 15th was an important day in the life of Kenny Omega.
For the first time since All Elite Wrestling was created back in 2019, the company headed to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Which so just happens to be the hometown of the AEW EVP and co-founder.
On the show, Omega teamed with The Young Bucks in the main event to take on the Jericho Appreciation Society and the House of Black for the World Trios Titles.
After a wild 20-minute bout it was the champions, the House of Black who retained their gold, but as Omega explained as the show went off the air, this was about more than championship gold. [Video via the Nolan Hockey Podcast]
“I suppose if there’s one thing that tonight has taught me, it’s to never forget where you came from. Family is family, home is where the heart is. You can always choose your friends. One lesson I’ve learned as well, I’ve supposed it’s that if you’ve loved before, it’s possible to possibly love again. Today, wow. What a success. Everything you see before you, this was nothing but a pipe dream. I was happy wrestling [names several places in Canada], Chalmers Rec Center.
Then of course we have this little shindig. Stop me if you’ve heard this before. I think it was from a famous movie or something. If you build it, they will come. Boy, oh boy, did you guys come down for a show tonight. Though I am not a psychic, I do not have ESP, I have ESPN, by the looks of the crowd tonight, my guess is that we’ll be back. I would love to say the famous line. However, we still have more wrestling for each and every one of you.
So that ticket that you purchased, it’s still good for one more hour of professional wrestling, so please stick around for a great episode of Rampage. It’s coming up for you next. In case you have a curfew, a bed time, anything like that, yeah, sure, I guess I’ll say the line. So for now, I must bid you adieu, so goodbye everyone, mwah [blows kiss] and goodnight. Bang [makes finger gun gesture],”
Kenny Omega Doesn’t Rule Out WWE Switch
Speaking in an interview to promote the show, Omega was asked whether he is interested in a move to WWE. Rumours around his future with AEW have gathered pace in recent weeks, while it is believed that he is open-minded about signing with WWE. The former AEW World Champion gave little away, noting that he would go wherever his heart takes him.
