AEW World Heavyweight Champion, Kenny Omega, has confirmed that one of the most popular wrestling gaming modes will not be a feature in the upcoming AEW console release.
Since All Elite Wrestling announced the creation of their much hyped video game, fans have been clamouring for several modes and features to be included in the release. Along with the same engine used for the popular WWF No Mercy fighter on the Nintendo 64, the most requested inclusion has been for a return of the General Manager mode.
Said gameplay sees the player put in the role of General Manager in order to take control of the company and make their own matches and storylines. The feature was a huge part of the Raw vs. SmackDown series prior to the takeover of 2K of the series and has not been seen since the 2009 version of the classic game.
Now, following the recent AEW Games 2.Show which ‘The Cleaner’ hosted, the former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion has sat down with IGN Japan to discuss the game and state with certainty that GM Mode will not be part of the upcoming release, but there will be plenty of other modes to make up for it:
“I can say right now that we’re not sure of how many wrestlers will be available upon release, but one thing I can say is that the number of wrestlers in the AEW is growing all the time, and the roster of wrestlers in the game will reflect that. There will be a campaign, and various other unusual modes, and you will be able to edit your own wrestler, too.
My plan is not to compete with WWE [with GM Mode] and that style of game. Those games try to re-create the look of a WWE wrestling match as you’d see it on TV, and their system is to use mo-cap for capturing the moves. I always felt that the way that [Hideyuki “Geta” Iwashita] had created his systems, even though it wasn’t with real people in mo-cap, it was more accurate.”
While GM mode is a no-go for now, fans will instead have to wait for the mobile AEW Elite GM game which has promised to do everything fans want from such a game and more.
At AEW 2.Show, Kenny Omega revealed that Create-a-Wrestling would be part of the game as would the popular online mode allowing players to battle friends and strangers around the world.
