Kenny Omega Told AEW Talents He Wouldn’t Have Hired “8 Out Of 10” Of Them

Kenny Omega laughs at Will Ospreay on AEW Dynamite 2022

Although Kenny Omega is said to have displayed “tough love” during AEW’s mandatory talent meeting, this may not have been quite truthful for some AEW stars.

A mandatory talent meeting in All Elite Wrestling was made public knowledge in the build towards All Out, with a number of issues raised. Coming away from it, it’s said that the atmosphere backstage improved greatly, though some weren’t quite convinced by Kenny Omega’s words.

Writing in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer addressed comments made by Omega that related to him stating how he personally wouldn’t have hired a large portion of those in the room:

“Also surfacing was a story that at the company meeting called several weeks back that the part of the speech by Omega that was described as a pep talk and tough love but that some were irked by a line he said that eight out of ten of the people there he wouldn’t have hired.

Several told us it was something totally misinterpreted and taken out of context but others didn’t like it. He also did say that the overall energy and locker room at the start of the company was more positive, perhaps in trying to recreate that time and place with the current roster.”

It’s said that Kenny Omega looked directly at Will Ospreay when making that remark. The two have known beef with each other to the extent that Ospreay alleged Omega tried to convince Tony Khan into not allowing him into AEW, so perhaps Kenny wasn’t quite as whimsical as he thought he was.

While Will Ospreay has declared that he’s wrapped up with AEW for the time being, Kenny Omega is serving a suspension from All Elite Wrestling for his involvement in the All Out backstage scuffle. It’s unknown when, exactly, he’ll return to active competition.
