All Elite Wrestling is said to be close to signing Keith Lee to a contract.
In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer revealed that All Elite Wrestling is said to have, at the very least, discussed signing Keith Lee, with the possibility of him having agreed to a contract.
This comes after the former Bearcat Lee officially became a free agent following the expiration of his ninety-day non-compete clause on 2 February:
“A number of WWE talents who were fired in early November are now free to start working elsewhere. Keith Lee is on that list and we’re told that he’s been talked about for here, if not has already agreed to a deal here.”
Keith Lee was one of eighteen names released by WWE on 4 November. Officially announced as a WWE talent in May 2018, Lee rose through the ranks of NXT, eventually holding both the NXT and NXT North American Championships at once by the summer of 2020. He was, for a while, expected to do well on the main roster, but a tedious battle with COVID-19 and dreadful booking prohibited Keith from achieving much of note.
From the day of his release, Keith Lee was all but confirmed to join the Tony Khan-helmed promotion. Whether or not his signing goes through remains to be seen, though AEW will intriguingly be in Texas, Lee’s home state, for two straight weeks of Dynamite and Rampage; 16 March in San Antonio and 23 March in Cedar Park.
