Kay Lee Ray Undergoes Name Change On NXT 2.0

Kay Lee Ray

Former NXT UK Women’s Champion Kay Lee Ray has been given a new name on the most recent episode of NXT 2.0.

On the April 26th episode of NT 2.0 a new vignette aired for Scottish star Kay Lee Ray. In the clip, she explained that it was time everyone found out who she really was, and to do that she must resurrect her past. She then revealed her new name to be Alba Fyre.

“It’s been eight months since the voyage began, but do you know who I really am? A fighter? Yes. A warrior? Yes. A champion. But what do you know about me? To understand me know, I have to resurrect my past. Fire represents life, but in my case, a rebirth, a resurrection of where I come from. I am Alba Fyre.”

Kay Lee Ray made a one off appearance in NXT in 2015, before competing in the Mae Young Classic two years later. She signed her first WWE contract in 2019, where she initially appeared in NXT UK. At NXT UK TakeOver: Cardiff, the star defeated Toni Storm to win the NXT UK Women’s Championship.

Ray held the championship for a record 649 days before eventually being beaten by Meiko Satomura. After this defeat, Rey headed to the United States, making her NXT debut at NXT TakeOver: 36.

More recently, the British star teamed with Io Shirai to win the Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. After securing the win, the two women entered into the Fatal-Four-Way match for the NXT Women’s Title at Stand & Deliver. However, Mandy Rose retained her championship.

The vignette revealing her new name was the first time that Ray had appeared on the show since her loss at Stand & Deliver.

The name change is the latest in a long line of recent changes which has seen Pete Dunne, Austin Theory, WALTER, Marcel Barthel and Elias among others all be given new ring names.
