The Good Brothers returned to WWE programming on the October 10th broadcast of Monday Night Raw, coming to the aid of AJ Styles in his battle vs. The Judgement Day. Comprised of Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, it marked the duo’s first appearance since April 2020.
Despite being back under contract with WWE, their commitments in New Japan Pro-Wrestling may not be done quite yet. Karl Anderson is still reigning as the NEVER Openweight Champion, with his next defence originally scheduled to be against Hikuleo at NJPW’s Battle Autumn show on the same day as WWE Crown Jewel.
Vic Joseph and Booker T, the current commentary team on NXT, mentioned the ongoing championship reign on the latest broadcast of the brand, which saw The Good Brothers team with Cameron Grimes in a winning effort over The Schism. Joseph mentioned that ‘The Machine Gun’ was “even a champion still in Japan” when speaking about the team going around the world.
Karl Anderson’s Tag Team Success
Heralded as a tag team specialist, be it in The Good Brothers with Luke Gallows or Bad Intentions with Giant Bernard, Karl Anderson is recognised as a 13-time Tag Team Champion, holding gold in every major promotion he’s entered. He’s a four-time, three-time, and two-time doubles champion in NJPW, IMPACT, and WWE, respectively.
Although he’s better known for these roles, Anderson is also an accomplished singles wrestler. He enjoyed mass success during his initial run in NJPW, which brought with it a stellar performance in the 2013 G1 Climax, where Anderson narrowly missed the finals.
He’s held the NEVER Openweight Championship since June 12th, dethroning co-Bullet Club founder Tama Tonga at Dominion. Karl has defended just once thus far, retaining over Hiroshi Tanahashi as part of New Japan’s Burning Spirit tour in Kobe on September 25th, two weeks before his triumphant return to the world of sports entertainment.
