Jungle Boy Jack Perry is goal-oriented heading into AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2.
One of the AEW pillars spoke with Bill Pritchard of WrestleZone and was asked about his state of mind as he goes one-on-one with Sanada for the IWGP World Heavyweight Title on June 25.
“I’m looking forward to the match, and getting in there with him and experiencing this is going to be equal to kind of top Japanese talent. For me, my goal that I said at the very beginning of the year is that I’m going to become a world champion.”
Jungle Boy Jack Perry Wants To Be A Crossover Champion
While Jungle Boy has previously challenged for the AEW World Championship, this will be his first attempt at Heavyweight gold outside of the promotion. Perry was the one name to accept SANADA’s open challenge for Forbidden Door 2. He’s aiming to make the champ regret doing so, but to him, it’s not about the individual who holds the gold.
“It’s about the championship that he has. And that’s what the deal is for me. So I’m gonna do it. I’m going to take the championship back to AEW; it’s gonna be a good night.”
Perry has a vote of confidence from one man who matters. On the Forbidden Door media call this week, Tony Khan was asked about the decision to have Jungle Boy in such a high-profile and the AEW President made clear that he’s believed in Perry since the inception of AEW back in 2019.
