JTG Claims Cryme Tyme Were “Shafted” In WWE

JTG has reflected on his time with Shad Gaspard in WWE and believes the duo known as Cryme Tyme were “shafted” by the company.

The team of Shad Gaspard and JTG graduated from OVW to the main roster of WWE in October 2006 and were known collectively as Cryme Tyme. Although the duo challenged several times for tag team gold, they never managed to capture the belts despite their burgeoning popularity with fans.

Following a six-month hiatus from WWE, Cryme Tyme returned to the company and formed an alliance with John Cena known as CTC but still, no championships were forthcoming for the team.

Speaking on SO CATCH By Hal JTG spoke candidly about his feelings relating to his and his partner’s time in WWE:

“While I was in the WWE, I definitely felt like we, Shad and I, were shafted.”

“Post-WWE career, looking back, I believe having the fans, being the fan favorites is way more important than being tag team champions, you know what I mean? Because they choose, the company chooses who they put the tag team titles on, but they can’t choose who they want the fans to love. We’ll always be fan favorites, we earned that. WWE didn’t give that to us.”

JTG then discussed how he felt about approaching WWE Chairman Vince McMahon with ideas for his character, and noted you needed patience and guts to get an audience with McMahon:

“Vince, when I was there, he wasn’t very hard to get in. I mean you just had to be patient because he’s got a lot of things going on. But yeah, you could definitely knock on his door, he’ll give you a minute or two. You just have to have the balls to go knock on his door.”

Cryme Tyme split up in 2010 with Shad Gaspard leaving WWE only months later. JTG survived in the company until his own exit in 2014. The pair teamed up again on the independent scene until Gaspard’s tragic death in May 2020.
