AEW Women’s World Champion, Thunder Rosa has a new challenger for her title in the form of one of the top stars of Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling.
On July 9th, at TJPW’s Summer Sun Princess 2022 event, Rosa faced Miyu Yamashita in singles action with the stipulation that, if Yamashita could defeat the champion, she would earn a future title shot.
In the final moments of the bout, the TJPW star reversed an inside cradle to score a pinfall victory over the AEW Women’s World Champion and claim her title opportunity. Rosa sealed the deal with a post-match handshake.
At the time of writing, a date has not yet been set for the title clash, but in a post-match press conference, Rosa said that she is ready to defend her title against the three-time TJPW Princess of Princess Champion when she is next in the United States.

私は受けて立つ」#tjpw#AEW#tjpwSSP22pic.twitter.com/cDgIOHEq0H

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer reported that Tony Khan has been interested in a televised match between the two for some time:
“It is not a lock or anything, but there was definitely talk of Rosa vs. Yamashita on AEW television, as well as in Japan. The key people [in AEW] were very impressed with Yamashita on the streaming shows.
“It is hard to explain why Yamashita with only a couple of matches and never having been on television would be getting a title shot, logically, and it’s never a lock here until it’s announced.”
Yamashita is no stranger to wrestling in America. She is a former SHINE Champion and recently debuted on Dark: Elevation, teaming with Skye Blue in a loss to Nyla Rose and Serena Deeb.
