It has been announced that Josh Alexander has vacated the IMPACT World Championship after suffering a serious injury.
Alexander has suffered a triceps tear which will require surgery. The star is scheduled to undergo the procedure on March 24th.
The long-reigning champion had been due to defend his title against Steve Maclin at Rebellion on April 16th. IMPACT has acted quickly to find a replacement for the main event, and the show will now be headlined by Maclin Vs. KUSHIDA. The winner will be crowned IMPACT World Champion.
Alexander was also scheduled to defend the gold against KUSHIDA at IMPACT and NJPW’s joint Multiverse United event on March 30th. A replacement is yet to be announced.
A six-man tag team match involving Alexander, Rich Swann &and Frankie Kazarian facing KUSHIDA & the Motor City Machine Guns was supposed to take place on IMPACT’s March 24th Sacrifice special, but Alexander has been replaced by Steve Maclin.
Following the news, Alexander took to social media and vowed to come back better than ever.
“Safe to say this news is devastating. I’ve torn my tricep. I will have to relinquish my @IMPACTWRESTLING World title immediately. I’m heading into surgery momentarily. I’m so thankful for my Impact family for the support. I’ll be back & I’ll be better than ever.”
Meanwhile, IMPACT Wrestling President Scott D’Amore a short statement.
“We wish Josh a full and speedy recovery, and everyone at IMPACT Wrestling, including our loyal fans, can’t wait to see him back in the ring.”
Josh Alexander Joins Mickie James On The Sidelines
The news of Alexander’s injury is another blow for IMPACT after it was revealed that Knockouts Champion Mickie James will also miss Sacrifice. The veteran is struggling with an undisclosed injury and is unable to compete. James had been due to defend her title against former champion Jordynne Grace.
