Jordan Devlin returned to NXT on the March 17th edition of the black and gold brand to stake his claim as the true NXT Cruiserweight Champion.
After winning the NXT Cruiserweight Title title back in 2020, Devlin was almost immediately unable to travel due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While Devlin continued to appear with his title on NXT UK, WWE held a tournament in the United States to crown a new champion.
Santos Escobar would emerge from that tournament victorious after defeating Drake Maverick in the finals, thus also crowning him as NXT Cruiserweight Champion.
After Devlin revealed that he would be at NXT on March 17th, Escobar called out his rival, and the Irishman was all to happy to respond. The two traded barbs before agreeing to face each other one on one at NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver, to crown the true NXT Cruiserweight Champion.
The tense showdown ended with Devlin planting a headbutt on Escobar before following up with the Devlincide.
Meanwhile, Triple H reacted to the two the Cruiserweight Champions clashing on Twitter, commenting, “2 claims over 1 title… the best Cruiserweight on the planet.”
