On the most recent edition of Ring of Honor, Jonathan Gresham was crowned the new ROH Pure Champion defeating Tracy Williams in the Finals of the Pure Championship Tournament.
Jonathan Gresham made the Final by defeating Wheeler Yuta, Matt Sydal and Josh Woods while Tracy Williams reached the end when he best Rust Taylor, Fred Yehi and Jay Lethal.
With the ROH Pure Championship now firmly around his waist, Gresham is a double champion in the company as he also holds the ROH World Tag Team Championship with Jay Lethal. The pair have reigned for 325 days after defeating The Briscoes at ROH Final Battle on December 13, 2019.
They have only made one defence of their coveted straps, however, against 2 Guys 1 Tag at ROH Bound By Honor on February 28.
The ROH Pure Championship first came into existence in 2004, crowning AJ Styles as it’s inaugural champion when he defeated CM Punk in a tournament Final at ROH Second Anniversary Show.
Since then, the title has been passed around names likes Bryan Danielson, Samoa Joe, Nigel McGuiness and Doug Williams to name just a few but was retired in 2006 and unified with the ROH World Heavyweight Championship after Bryan Danielson defeated Nigel McGuinness at ROH Unified in Liverpool, England.
For those wishing to see the new champion crowned, the episode will be aired on November 2 on FITE.
