Jon Moxley’s NJPW Return Confirmed

Jon Moxley

All Elite Wrestling’s Jon Moxley is returning to New Japan Pro-Wrestling on 16 April in Chicago, Illinois.

Jon Moxley, the second AEW World Champion, has been announced for NJPW’s Windy City Riot event, their debut in Chicago, on Saturday, 16 April.

“The Death Rider” revealed as such in a promo posted to New Japan’s Twitter, referring to himself as NJPW’s boogeyman, and directly naming Kazuchika Okada, Hiroshi Tanahashi, and Shingo Takagi in his promo. Okada is currently the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, while Tanahashi is the IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion, a title Mox himself has also previously held twice.

Intriguingly, the camera got close to Mox as he mentioned Tanahashi’s name, hinting at a potential title bout vs. “The Ace”.

The former Dean Ambrose hasn’t appeared for the promotion since their Showdown special as part of their STRONG weekly show, where he teamed with Eddie Kingston in losing fashion to Suzuki-gun’s Minoru Suzuki and Lance Archer in a barbaric Philadelphia Street Fight. This aired on 27 November, just a matter of weeks after Jon Moxley entered an inpatient alcohol treatment program, though it was pre-taped on 17 October.

Jon Moxley returned to action on Rampage’s 21 January episode, where he defeated Ethan Page. He has since retained the Game Changer Wrestling World Championship over Homicide during the historic The WRLD on GCW pay-per-view.
