Jon Moxley knows the historical impact that Terry Funk has made on the pro wrestling business and he wants the rest of the modern day to know too.
Moxley got to memorialize the late pro wrestling legend in a new interview with Sports Illustrated and made clear that nobody in the squared circle could top what Terry Funk did as a pro wrestler and as a person.
“If Terry Funk’s not the greatest of all time, then who the f*ck is? Terry Funk wasn’t playing a pro wrestler. He was the real thing.”
Funk passed away on August 23 and the wrestling world took heed of the greatness of Funk, who first wrestled in December of 1965 against Sputnik Monroe.
Jon Moxley Thinks Terry Funk Would Have Fit Right In Today’s Modern Wrestling
Jon Moxley has carved his own path in the world of pro wrestling and much like Terry Funk, he has marched to the beat of his own drum after leaving WWE for AEW and helped to establish a new wrestling promotion, much like Funk did in part for ECW.
“We can learn a lot from Terry Funk. He was so giving. He chose to give back in ECW. And he wasn’t the type of guy who’d say the kids today couldn’t work. He was doing moonsaults in his 50s. If he were wrestling today, I fully believe he’d be in AEW and doing shows for Revolver or Bloodsport and doing Canadian Destroyers.”
Funk’s legacy has hit the home with several top stars in AEW as CM Punk took a moment to pay tribute to him on AEW Collision and with a spinning toe hold to Samoa Joe at AEW All In. Additionally, Eddie Kingston has always been a big advocate of Terry Funk’s impact on the business.
