Jon Moxley has addressed the status of the World Championship belt.
At WrestleDream, Jon Moxley defeated Bryan Danielson for the AEW World Title. Rather than celebrate the victory, Moxley had the belt thrown in a duffel bag and led the Blackpool Combat Club in a vicious assault on The American Dragon.
Since then, it has been unclear why Moxley decided against carrying the belt with him to show he is the champion. However, on Collision, he revealed his feelings towards the gold.
Moxley claimed that the belt isn’t “for” anybody as it simply represents the position of being at the top of the company, a position he believes he has always held.
“Regarding the World Championship, nothing has changed, is different. Nothing changed last Saturday night, nothing has changed since the moment I arrived.
“Nobody owns that belt, it doesn’t belong to anybody. It’s not for Bryan Danielson or anybody else, it’s for the position, and only one man has ever sat in that chair. That is me.
Going further, Moxley explained that he sees the belt as a “symbol of everything he hates” in pro wrestling and everything the promotion was “not supposed to be.”
“Somebody spent a lot of money on that belt and it’s really supposed to mean something. It’s just gold and leather, and when I look at it, it’s a symbol of everything I hate in this sport.
“It’s a symbol of everything I’ve been fighting against in this business for years, everything that AEW was not supposed to be. If nobody else is going to say it, I’ll say it.”
