Johnny Gargano has become the first-ever three-time NXT North American Champion at TakeOver: WarGames – with a little bit of help from Ghostface, or an army of Ghostfaces.
Competing in a gruelling Triple Threat Match for the North American Championship, Leon Ruff, Damian Priest and Johnny Gargano pulled out all the stops, with Ruff returning to the ring after a lengthy spell out of the match after The Archer of Infamy wiped him clean out, via the barricade, while Gargano would have many masked accomplices to help win the match.
One of the Ghostfaces, though, would unmask themselves to end the match after taking Priest out of action, allowing Gargano to pin Ruff. Ghostface revealed that they were indeed Austin all along – Austin Theory, that is!

Austin Theory had publicly “quit” NXT live on television several weeks ago following a losing run. Johnny Gargano makes history as not only the first-ever two-time NXT North American Champion, but also the first-ever three-time NXT North American Champion – taking the title from Leon Ruff, who was competing at his first-ever NXT TakeOver, having won the title from Gargano on the weekly NXT show several weeks ago.
