Johnny Gargano has picked two NXT Superstars he sees as the future of pro wrestling on WWE’s black and gold brand, saying he’s going to make the most of his time working with them.
Gargano and wife Candice LeRae are firm fixtures of NXT with Gargano being one of the lynchpins of the brand since his days teaming with Tommaso Ciampa in #DIY. In recent times the two stars have taken another two top prospects under their wings and formed the formidable group known as The Way.
In an interview with Sportskeeda Wrestling, Johnny Gargano singled out those prospects, saying that Austin Theory and Indi Hartwell were handpicked for the group by himself and LeRae.
“I’m going to make the best of the time I have with Austin and Indi because I know and firmly believe…like…they were handpicked by me and Candice because we know they are the future of what we do. They have great attitudes. They have so much charisma, so much character, and so much athletic ability. It looks like we made them in a freakin lab. I think the world of Austin and Indi, so we’re gonna make the best of the time we have with them because they’re gonna make this company a lot of money for a long time.”
Austin Theory spent some time on the WWE main roster as part of the Raw brand before finding his feet in The Way on NXT. He had short-lived stints as both a disciple of Seth Rollins and as one of Zelina Vega’s hired guns alongside Andrade and Angel Garza.
Hartwell is one of WWE’s antipodean contingent along with the likes of Raw Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley and former NXT North American Champion Bronson Reed. Hartwell has found success herself in NXT, winning the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship with Candice LeRae.
