Johnny Gargano Was “99.9%” Sure He Wouldn’t Re-Sign With WWE In July 2021

Johnny Gargano being interviewed

Johnny Gargano’s decision not to re-sign with the WWE had apparently been made long before his contract expired as revealed in a vlog from July 2021.

After spending more than six years in NXT, Johnny Gargano’s WWE contract expired on December 10th, 2021, and the former three time NXT North American champion made the decision not to re-sign with the company. His last appearance in NXT took place on the December 7th episode and featured a heartwarming goodbye to the fans who’d supported him throughout the years before Grayson Waller came out to attack the departing star.

During his time away from the wrestling ring, the former leader of The Way has been getting into the content creation game, starting both Twitch and YouTube channels. He recently revealed that he and his wife Candice LeRae have been filming a series of vlogs while they prepare to be parents for the first time as Candice is currently pregnant and due to give birth in February.

The first vlog uploaded to the YouTube channel was recorded back in July of 2021, and features the parents-to-be preparing to tell the good news to friends and family.

So I guess to date this, it’s July 9th. There’s a 99.99999% chance I don’t re-sign, and maybe I can become a professional YouTuber if I can figure this out.

Candice LeRae points out that he could be a stay at home dad, and the couple proceed to talk about the fact that only two people know about Candice’s pregnancy so far. Johnny Gargano adds that the timing of the pregnancy is perfect because his contract will be up shortly before his wife is due to give birth.

So by the time my contract runs out, we’ll be like, two months left, so timing-wise it works out perfectly.

The vlog seems to confirm what Johnny Gargano stated in a December interview in which he said that he was planning to take a hiatus from wrestling even before Candice became pregnant and made the decision a year ago.

Candice LeRae is still employed by the WWE, and according to a report from Fightful Select, her deal is set to expire sometime in 2022.
