John Morrison has shared his thoughts on first being paired up into a tag team with The Miz and why recent events in the WWE locker room made him question the partnership.
In 2007 after first being involved with a rivalry with The Miz, Morrison was paired with him in a tag team. Competing on ECW and SmackDown, the duo piqued fan’s interest when they began hosting their own WWE.com show ‘The Dirt Sheet.’
Speaking on The Miz’s WWE 24 special [available on Peacock and the WWE Network], Morrison discussed the early days of teaming with the Miz. John Morrison also noted that for him, the timing to team with Miz couldn’t have been worse.
“When I first got paired up with Miz in 2007, I remember thinking, ‘Oh, great. This guy that just got kicked out of the locker room is going to be my tag-team partner – good for me’. We started riding together and it really didn’t take long for me to realise that there’s a lot more to Mike Mizanin than ‘the Miz’. Both Miz and I really wanted to do some sort of sketch show for digital, because we thought it would be a good way to flesh out our personalities, and we could use the humour that we have that we made up in the car, and we could put that into a thing.”
The Miz discussed during the documentary just how he came to be banished from the locker room. Forming a cohesive unit, ‘The Dirt Sheet’ became a great success online at a time where there weren’t many online shows in wrestling. Zack Ryder’s ‘Long Island Iced-Z’ was still four years away from happening.
Morrison left WWE in 2011 to return in early 2020. Such was his alliance with The Miz in his first run, the two men were immediately paired back up. Together they have held different iterations of the WWE Tag Team Championships twice.
At WrestleMania 37, John Morrison and The Miz were part of one of the most talked-about matches of the weekend. The duo faced Damian Priest and rap superstar Bad Bunny on WrestleMania Saturday. After an impressive outing by all four men, Bunny claimed the win over The Miz after a crossbody that took Miz crashing off of Priest’s shoulders.
