With WWE in a state of change, it has emerged that John Laurinaitis is no longer with the company amid allegations of misconduct levelled at him.
The wrestling world was shocked when allegations surfaced in the Wall Street Journal regarding hush money payments to a former WWE employee who had an affair with both Vince McMahon and John Laurinaitis. An investigation into the claims by WWE’s Board uncovered further evidence of non-disclosure agreements and payments related to claims of sexual misconduct.
Further reports noted that Laurinaitis is being investigated by WWE’s Board of Directors in regard to a “$1.5 million nondisclosure agreement reached in 2012 with an employee.” Laurinaitis stepped down from his role as Head of Talent Relations at around the same time that the deal with the employee was reached. It is alleged that Laurinaitis demoted the woman after she ended their affair.
Vince McMahon at first stepped back from his role as WWE Chairman and CEO with Head of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis doing the same. McMahon has since announced his retirement from the company but no official word has been given to Laurinaitis’ status with WWE – although Triple H is now in charge of the company’s talent relations department.
Joining Chris Jericho on Talk Is Jericho to discuss the goings-on in WWE was Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer who confirmed that John Laurinaitis is no longer with the company:
“John Laurinaitis is also gone. Although no announcement has been made, Triple H/Paul Levesque has taken over as head of talent relations, which was John’s job. So he has gone too, but with less fanfare.”
A former WWE Superstar has suggested that the allegations levelled at John Laurinaitis could just be the “tip of the iceberg.”
