It looks like the plan for John Cena’s highly anticipated WWE return has been confirmed with Cena seemingly inked in for a huge bout this summer.
WWE has been celebrating ‘Cena Month’ throughout June as the company marks the 20th anniversary of one of their top stars of all time.
Vince McMahon appeared on Raw recently to confirm that Cena would be appearing on WWE’s flagship show on June 27th, 20 years to the day since he famously told Kurt Angle about his ruthless aggression on SmackDown.
Now Dave Meltzer writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has seemingly confirmed the plans for John Cena once he returns with Cena’s presence sure to be felt at SummerSlam where he is expected to take on current WWE United States Champion, Theory:
“What will be more notable is after the announcement of the expected John Cena vs. Theory will Cena provide the extra box office magic for this show that he did for Raw this week in Laredo, TX for his return. In addition, the heavy promotion doesn’t start until after 7/2.”
Theory and Cena have taken shots at each other on social media recently so a match between the two men has been widely expected at The Biggest Party of the Summer.
Cena’s last televised match in WWE came at SummerSlam 2021 when he unsuccessfully challenged Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Title.
