John Cena’s WrestleMania Opponent “Locked In”

John Cena WrestleMania

According to a new report, John Cena’s match at WrestleMania 39 is a done deal, even if WWE are yet to acknowledge it on television.

John Cena has only wrestled once since September 2021, but the Hollywood star remains big business. For his recent match on SmackDown on December 30th, 2022, WWE sold a huge number of tickets after he was announced, while the TV rating was SmackDown’s highest in a little over two years.

It has been expected for a number of months that Cena would be back in action for WrestleMania, although there was some doubt over who he would be facing. Logan Paul very publicly threw his hat into the ring, while it is believed that long-term plans involved Austin Theory.

Who Is John Cena’s WrestleMania Opponent?

Following reports that Cena would be wrestling Theory, it has now been reported that the match is one of a growing number that are “locked in.” Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer gave the rundown.

“For WrestleMania, the locked in matches at this point are Reigns vs. Rhodes for the Universal title, Charlotte Flair vs. Ripley for the Smackdown women’s title, Belair vs. the Chamber winner for the Raw women’s title, John Cena vs. Austin Theory (no word on whether this will or won’t be a U.S. title match)”

WWE dropped the clearest hint yet that the bout between Theory and Cena is coming soon with the release of the trailer for WWE 2K23. In the clip featuring Cena playing the game, his character is wrestling Theory.

Austin Theory is set to be in action at Elimination Chamber on February 18th. On the show, Theory will defend his United States Title in an Elimination Chamber Match against Johnny Gargano, Bronson Reed, Seth Rollins, and two other stars who are yet to qualify.
