John Cena’s Filming Schedule Ahead Of WWE WrestleMania

John Cena

With the Royal Rumble in the rearview mirror, fans are looking ahead to WrestleMania 39 in Los Angeles, CA and wondering whether or not John Cena will be making an appearance after all.

With latest reports that Stone Cold Steve Austin turned down the opportunity to wrestle at the event and that Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is unlikely to be ready for a match, eyes are on Cena as to whether he’ll participate in a match at the blockbuster event.

Though Cena isn’t ruled out as far as an appearance on the Grandest Stage of Them All, he has a busy filming schedule ahead of the event that will keep him away from WWE television during the majority of the WrestleMania build.

John Cena Is Set To Star As The Titular Role In Peter Farrelly’s Ricky Stanicky

According to Variety, the Peter Farrelly-helmed film Ricky Stanicky is soon set to begin filming in Melbourne, Australia. Production will take place during the months of February and March, leaving little time for Cena to appear on WWE television ahead of WrestleMania in April.

John Cena and co-star Zac Efron have already arrived in Melbourne according to the report. The IMDB synopsis for the R-rated comedy film reads as follows:

When three teens pull a prank and burn down a house in their neighborhood, they create a fake person to take the blame — Ricky Stanicky did it! Twenty years later we see that they have been using this alibi to get out of every uncomfortable situation in life. When their wives force them to set up a meeting with Stanicky, they hire an actor.

Cena is set to star as the actor hired to play the titular role, with Efron likely playing one of the friends.

Director Peter Farrelly, who is known for such films as There’s Something About Mary, Dumb & Dumber, and the Oscar-winning The Green Book, issued a statement to Variety about how happy he is this film is finally taking place.

“I can’t tell you how happy I am to be back in Australia—and, specifically, in Melbourne, where I spent my honeymoon 26 years ago. And to finally get to make the movie that I’ve been trying to make for ten years, it’s a dream come true.”

John Cena recently returned to WWE action on the December 30th episode of SmackDown, teaming with Kevin Owens to defeat the team of Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn.
