John Cena Wraps Filming On Peacemaker Series

John Cena Peacemaker

John Cena has wrapped filming on his upcoming HBO series Peacemaker according to the show’s writer and director James Gunn as rumours swirl about Cena’s imminent WWE return.

Peacemaker is Cena’s first-ever television show and will see him reprise the character he plays in this summer’s blockbuster The Suicide Squad. The announcement of the wrapping on the series comes in a massively busy year for Cena as he also stars in the ninth installment of The Fast And The Furious franchise F9 as Jakob Toretto. Cena caused a storm during the press tour of that film as he described Taiwan as a country before backtracking and making an apology in Mandarin to China.

The Suicide Squad writer and director James Gunn took to social media announcing the end of filming on the first season of the shows after one hundred and thirty-one days:

“And that’s a wrap on Day 131 & Season One of #Peacemaker. Less than a year ago I pitched a vague pitch to @HBOMax – here we are 11 months later with 8 astounding episodes in the can. Cast & crew: I love you all. Thank you for putting your hearts & souls into this project.”

John Cena has not been seen in WWE since his Firefly Funhouse match with The Fiend Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania 36. The cinematic match told an alternate history of Cena’s WWE career and even saw him as a member of the nWo. In the end, The Fiend defeated Cena by pinning him while Funhouse Bray Wyatt counted the fall.

Rumours have circulated over the past few months that John Cena is set to return to WWE imminently with a potential SummerSlam main event looking likely. Several reports suggest that WWE is looking to make their first chance to fill a stadium count by putting on a show even bigger than WrestleMania. Cena’s prospective opponent in that main event is WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns.

With Cena now apparently free of acting commitments the sixteen-time champion of the world could return to WWE television as early as the 16th of July edition of SmackDown which will be the first WWE show back on the road since the pandemic started.
