It was announced today that eight episodes have been ordered for series one by HBO Max and, although details are scarce, it was confirmed that James Gunn is the man behind the series.
Gunn – writer and director of The Suicide Squad – will write the series and direct multiple episodes. Peacemaker is scheduled to start production in early 2021.
James Gunn: “Peacemaker is an opportunity to delve into current world issues through the lens of this superhero/supervillain/and world’s biggest douchebag.
I’m excited to expand The Suicide Squad and bring this character from the DC film universe to the full breadth of a series. And of course, to be able to work again with John, Peter and my friends at Warner Bros. Is the icing on the cake.”
Working alongside @JamesGunn on #SuicideSquad was an absolute masterclass in how to best bring beloved characters to life in a new and fun way. I cannot wait for the #DCUniverse to experience more of absurdity that is the Peacemaker in this new project on @hbomax!!! pic.twitter.com/PZ9dOa7Dzj

John Cena is already a hit on the silver screen, however, Peacemaker provides the 16-time World Champion a fantastic opportunity to develop his acting credentials. A prominent, mainstream TV role is undoubtedly a major career move for Cena.
With Suicide Squad is expected to be a major hit when hits cinemas in August 2021, Peacemaker has the perfect opportunity to capitalise on that success. The Suicide Squad is scheduled for release on August 6th, 2021.
