John Cena, who has not been seen in a WWE ring since WrestleMania 36, has teased a return to the company that made him a household name.
In his last appearance, the 16-time World Champion was defeated by The Fiend in a Firefly Funhouse match. Following the loss, his lifeless body vanished from the ring.
Now, the Doctor of Thuganomics has taken to social media to hint at a potential comeback. On Instagram, he simply posted a picture of the WWE logo with no caption.
Cena has branched out from wrestling over the past few years and is following in the footsteps of fellow wrestling megastar The Rock by moving into the movie industry. He has already had a starring role in the Transformers franchise spin-off Bumblebee and is set two feature in two more blockbusters this year in the ninth instalment of the Fast and Furious franchise as well as playing The Peacemaker in DC’s The Suicide Squad, a role he will continue onto the small screen in an HBO spin-off series.
“Certainly whether people enjoyed what I did or not, I think they would say that I walked the talk and love the company I work for. I say ‘I love’ not ‘loved,’ and ‘work’ not ‘worked,’ because I have been, am and always will be a WWE Superstar.”
Whether John Cena is planning an appearance in WWE soon remains to be seen. We will provide any updates on this story right here at Inside the Ropes.
