John Cena wants to see The Rock return to a WWE ring but he says the biggest movie star in the world has earned the right to not be pressured into that decision.
The Rock is wrestling’s biggest cross-over star as he parlayed a career as The Most Electrifying Man In Sports Entertainment into becoming the highest-paid movie star on the planet. A star of The Fast And The Furious franchise, The Rock’s Jungle Cruise movie has become one of the hottest tickets of 2021.
Now Rock’s WrestleMania 28 and 29 opponent John Cena has defended The People’s Champion’s right to choose when and indeed if he ever returns to the wrestling ring.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Cena explained:
“He’s earned the right not to be pressured into that choice. I can say he is a fan of the WWE. He is the most electrifying man in sports entertainment. So as a fan do, I want to see one of the greatest performers of all time step back in the WWE ring? Yeah. But in no way am I gonna call him and if I’m gonna talk to him about something, it’s not gonna try to be to get him back in the WWE ring. He needs to come to that conclusion by himself because then, his performance will be, The Rock, he’ll be the best he can be. So I do hope he comes back, as a fan, and I hope it’s wonderful, and if he chooses not to, he’s earned the right to choose not to.”
John Cena himself has followed in Rock’s footsteps, both into the world of Hollywood and into The Fast And Furious franchise, starring in F9. Cena also stars as Peacemaker in DC’s summer smash The Suicide Squad and wrapped filming on an HBO series based on the character shortly before his own return to WWE at Money In The Bank in July.
Cena set his sights on Roman Reigns and a record-breaking seventeenth world championship reign, however, The Tribal Chief proved to be too much for Cena at SummerSlam. John Cena has since indicated that he has to step away from the ring again as his commitments in his other career continue to escalate.
