John Cena has put the entire WWE Universe on notice as he says it’s a matter of when he returns to the ring rather than a matter of if.
The sixteen-time champion of the world has not competed in a match for WWE since his Firefly Fun House match at WrestleMania 36 in 2020. John Cena faced off with The Fiend Bray Wyatt in that cinematic encounter that saw Cena relive moments of his career, as well as show an alternate reality where Cena embraced a much-talked-about heel turn. In the end, The Fiend claimed the victory over Cena as Funhouse Bray Wyatt counted the pin.
You would have to go back over a year before that match to find 44-year-old Cena’s last bout in the confines of a WWE ring. Cena was part of a fatal four-way match on the 14th of January 2019 edition of Raw to find a number one contender for the WWE Universal Title. In a match that also included Baron Corbin and Drew McIntyre, it was the first-ever holder of that championship that gained another shot at it by winning, Irish star Finn Balor.
Speaking to Chris Van Vliet, Cena spoke about looking forward to getting in the ring again and going back to his sartorial roots.
“The last time was not this WrestleMania but last WrestleMania. I can tell you this, I very much look forward to wearing jorts again, it’s been too long.”
Van Vliet followed up with Cena asking the star of the new movie F9 if that meant it’s a matter of when rather than if Cena will return to WWE in-ring competition.
Cena then responded in the affirmative, saying:
“You are absolutely correct. Yep.”
Members of the Ce-Nation might not have to wait long for John Cena to make his wrestling returns if recent reports are to be believed. Cena is strongly rumoured to be Roman Reigns’ planned opponent in the main event of August’s SummerSlam.
