John Cena will be appearing live in front of the WWE Universe on the brand where he made his debut 21 years ago.
As reported by Fox Sports, Cena will be appearing on the September 1st episode of SmackDown, which will air live from The Giant Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania. This is also the final edition of WWE programming before the Payback Premium Live Event, which will be taking place 24 hours later.
It is also speculated that Cena will be travelling to India to be a part of the Superstar Spectacle event, which takes place the following week on September 8th. However, unlike SmackDown, the Superstar Spectacle will not be broadcast on television, meaning that fans won’t be able to see Cena at this show.
The last appearance that the 16-time World Champion made for the company was at Money in the Bank back in July, with the unannounced segment being a genuine surprise to the fans in attendance. Cena stated he was in London because he wanted to see the city be the host of a future WrestleMania, much to the delight of everyone inside the O2. The segment was then interrupted by Grayson Waller, who received an Attitude Adjustment for his troubles.
When Did John Cena Last Wrestle?
Continuing the streak of having at least one match a year since his debut in 2002, Cena last competed at WrestleMania 39 in Hollywood, challenging Austin Theory for the United States Championship in the opening match of the weekend. Theory would successfully retain the title after hitting a low blow and A Town Down to pick up the victory.
In an update by WWE, Cena’s return will now be longer than previously anticipated.
