John Cena Responds To Drew McIntyre’s Match Proposal

John Cena has responded to Drew McIntyre’s recent comments regarding a match between the two, believing the ‘Scottish Warrior’ is setting himself up for “disappointment”.

Former WWE Champion Drew McIntyre made comment regarding Cena during a conversion with On Demand Entertainment back in June 2021. McIntyre summarised that there is no bigger match currently in WWE than a potential bout between the two.

However, appearing on the same channel, John Cena has responded to Drew’s statement during an interview promoting ‘Fast 9’, the latest instalment in the Fast & Furious franchise which features Cena.

John Cena said that although he appreciates being mentioned by McIntyre, he does not believe either Drew or indeed himself are in any kind of position to set plans in place for future matches:

“Well, I always appreciate being involved in a conversation of saying things are important because that means people haven’t forgotten what you’ve put forth as an effort. But, what a way to set yourself up for disappointment. In no way, shape, or form is Drew in a position to make matches or make things happen and I’m not either. Neither of us have that power. That’s beyond our capacity so I certainly am grateful for being mentioned, which is awesome.”

Though the pair have stood across the ring from one another in multi man matches, neither have faced the other one on one in WWE’s history. Interestingly, Cena posted a picture of Drew with no caption on his official Instagram page on June 6, sparking online speculation regarding a match between the two.

Once professional wrestlings most polarising star, John Cena is seemingly winding down his day inside the squared circle. Following in the footsteps of The Rock, Cena is now making his mark in Hollywood. Currently involved with Fast 9, the former World Champion is also set to play Peacemaker in the upcoming film, The Suicide Squad.

Last appearing in a match against Bray Wyatt at Wrestlemania 36, many fans speculate John’s future with WWE. However, Cena went on to say that he is not yet done with the company. The ‘Doctor of Thuganomics’ would also reiterate that upon his return and throughout his career, Cena has never chosen his opponents, instead doing what the company ask of him:

“I got more matches left in the WWE. I’m not done. But I’ve never approached anything like, ‘I’d like to work with this person or ‘I want to have a match with this person,’ because I don’t make those choices. They say, ‘Hey, we’d like you to do this.’ Alright, it’s time to go to work and that’s really allowed me to enjoy every step of the way. I think if we build up expectations in our head, like I hate to say this to Drew, but if that never happens, how is he supposed to feel about that?”

John Cena vs Drew McIntyre doesn’t appear to be happening any time soon. However, with both men being main event draws in WWE and new online speculation running wild amongst fans, perhaps a bout between the pair could happen sooner rather than later.
