John Cena Praised By ECW Legend: “He Was Better Than Everyone Said He Was”

John Cena Praised By ECW Legend:

A notable name from ECW has given a surprising opinion on John Cena.

Very much the antithesis of what ECW stood for, Cena was the all-conquering hero and the face of the company. Not one to be anti-establishment or controversial following his face turn, fans of the extreme promotion let their feeling be known in a big way in 2006 when the former World Champion put the title on the line against Rob Van Dam inside the Hammerstein Ballroom at One Night Stand. One of the most hostile crowds in history, there was nothing that Cena could do to make the New York crowd change their mind.

Shortly after the show, WWECW would launch on the Sci Fi Network to revive the brand out of fan interest. Along with this came the return of former ECW Champion Sabu, who faced off against Cena in an Extreme Rules Lumberjack match at Vengeance 2006.

Speaking on Stories with Brisco and Bradshaw, Sabu was very complimentary of Cena and stated that he was pleasantly surprised when they faced off inside the squared circle:

“Oh yeah, he was better than everybody said he was and he was more gracious than I could imagine, but he was he was very good. I thought he was very good.”

During the same interview, the ECW legend gave an update on his health and admitted that he needed multiple surgeries.

Looking back at a particular WrestleMania encounter, John Cena was very grateful that he got to face off against one of his idols.

H/t to Fightful.
