John Cena Opens Up On Retirement Plans Ahead Of WrestleMania 39

John Cena WrestleMania

WrestleMania 39 could be the last time the WWE Universe sees John Cena wrestle on the grandest stage.

Following a return to the company on the March 6th episode of Raw, Cena would put out a cryptic Tweet regarding his future.

Last night was the first time I entered the arena and had the thought that it might be the last time. I’ll never be able to put into words how much I love the #WWEUniverse

John Cena Comments On WWE Future

The return was to set up Cena’s match at WrestleMania 39, which will be the first match that the multi time Mania main eventer will have in 2023. Having previously held the United States Championship 5 times, Cena hopes to add one more reign to the tally as he goes one-on-one with current holder Austin Theory.

Speaking with AP News, Cena would address the social media post. The 16 time World Champion stated that he has acknowledged that his wrestling journey will be coming to an end in the near future:

“I tried to put it in words in Twitter. I guess I didn’t explain myself correctly. It was the first time I came out into the arena knowing that this has a definitive end. Normally, you come out, you get all excited, OK, this is the next one and I’m waiting for the next one. I’m not done, of course. I made that statement accepting a match at WrestleMania so I know I have at least one more in front of me. But what I was trying to convey was, that was the first time I looked at all that excitement and energy and realized this is the twilight of that journey,”

While it is uncertain how many matches Cena has left inside the squared circle, the US Title match may not be the only televised contest for the Hollywood star. Cena is reportedly scheduled to have another match later in the year at SummerSlam.
